A Brief Note on the Comment Section
I will not tolerate racism or bigotry; this is not a place to shitpost
In my post on the District 65 Discipline policy, I’ve started getting comments that I consider inappropriate. This is a private platform and I will not be tolerating any kind of racial resentment or natural culture war comments. This Substack is meant to be a voice that can reach all people of Evanston and I have absolutely no interest in empowering racists in our community.
Examples I will ban you include;
Discussions of national racial politics that have nothing to do with my story.
References to people as “the blacks” or “the transgenders”
Complaints regarding “wokeness” or “indoctrination”
I respect that discussions around race and gender will happen, because it is a big part of the equity curriculum. That is fine. However, you are all adults and are capable of being respectful to each other, the District, and me in these conversations.
It is possible to have discussions that are critical of the District while at the same time, being in favor of the ideas behind the policies, such as equity, equality, and restorative justice. Even if you are not in favor of such policies or curriculum, I expect you to practice a basic level of respect and decorum for your neighbors. If you are not capable of that level of basic respect, I will ban you.
Furthermore, this is not a platform to discuss national issues regarding “culture wars” or “wokeness.” There are plenty of platforms to discuss such topics ad nauseam and this is not one of them.
Thank you- I was a little concerned about the tone of some of those comments.
Does anyone the outcome of the vote of the Dekalb School Board today?
