"I don’t normally like to carry water or do PR journalism but I think we should give credit when credit is due."

I think the beauty of this Substack is that you show all the documents. Sharing the press release or the promotional flyer isn't endorsing it, it's being fair.

Giving credit where credit is due .... making sure that local businesses are aware of the opportunity is good stuff. For all the talk that Northwestern made about opening up the process, I don't think that I saw evidence that they were actually walking the walk when it came to the new stadium. This is good work.

In the real world ( not the PR world) union workers do the electrical work, the HVAC work, the plumbing work, the carpentry work etc etc Do you think union electricians are sitting around in Evanston hoping for work? How many women owned construction companies are there? Northwestern did a PR job saying they will bring generational wealth to the Black community. How is that working out?

I think Evanston and the North Shore is full of people who own contracting companies that regularly bid on municipal work (myself included, but I'm on the maintenance side). I don't know how many are owned by women, but there's not really any downside to finding companies that might be? And to your point, Northwestern said they would generational wealth to the Black community and then did *nothing* like this! We should encourage it instead of shitting on it.

Spot on. This is lipstick on a pig. Another delay tactic. Let’s spend another year finding local union workers. When does the pandering ever end? I will go back to banging my head on a wall. Thanks, D65!

And PS, this is not normal. Just bid the freaking project out. Knowing Evanston, we will check voters party affiliation, race and gender affiliation. This is not how good contractors are found. But since when do we care about that?
