Congratulations, Tom! You are the reason we will be able to get rid of the current D65 Board. No incumbents are running. Maybe just maybe things can turn around.
I found this quote from the Evanston Now article funny: "Hailpern, a two-term board member, said he’ll talk more about his decision in a week or so."
Joey, seriously, nobody cares about your reason for deciding not to run. We're just happy that you're stepping aside.
I am a little worried about the fact that there are 17 people running and that we might see support for reform and fiscal responsibility minded candidates get diluted in such a large candidate field.
I think people will drop out. There are a non-zero number of people on the list who ran because they were concerned nobody else would and wanted to make sure the seats didn't go empty.
OK I was up all night reading about this and am more confused than when I wrote about this last night. Dunning-Kruger at work! The timing here is very confusing, though. Let me update the story when I figure out more.

Not surprising that Joey is retiring.

How does it work if they drop out? Is their name still on the ballot? Will the two 'Opdykes' fuse into a single person?
Thursday, January 23: Last day to file a Withdrawal of Candidacy with the local election official or authority
As long as they dropout before 1/23 they won't be on the ballot. After 1/23, it is locked in.
"tax year 2024 actually starts in two weeks." You meant 2025.

Go look at your tax bill! 2024 goes Dec 24 to Dec 25. It makes no sense
