My first encounter with Tom was when I reached out to him to gauge his interest in running for the Board in 2023. I didn't know him other than as a frequent and smart commenter on D65 issues in the Evanston Roundtable.
His answer: I am crazy, but not THAT crazy.
Running for the School Board shouldn't be something that you need to be crazy to do.
All of these folks have stepped up to offer themselves to the community during an especially challenging time for our school district.
Hopefully during the weeks ahead as the campaign moves forward, we can remember to treat each of these people in a way that doesn't make running seem like a venture that only a crazy person would set off on.
This is amazing work Tom, and has given me a lot to think about (I found two candidates I think I will be very strongly leaning towards in this round-up).
As Angela said below, this gives me real hope for the future of D65…even though my kid has graduated into ETHS, I want to make sure D65 is set for the future so future generations can get the education my kid got at Walker and Chute!
I would like to hear more from Pat about her take on the inequities of the Fifth Ward school and whether addressing them means cancelling the project. The last sentence of her write-up cries out for elaboration.
Love the pragmatic nonideological vibe of the write-ups. This election could actually be fun! Thanks for doing this, Tom. Obviously, RT and EN will be covering the election. I wonder how your platform might bring something novel to the table that RT and EN won't.
I think I am going to do a podcast with some of the folks and just shoot-the-shit and also run a cold-call polling operation just to see if I can. I love the horse race.

What an amazing group of candidates. Makes me hopeful for the first time in a very long time. Thanks for doing this, Tom.
Thanks to Tom too. These all seem like serious people.

BTW, how many open seats are we voting for?
4 open seats
No one addressed the issue of "to prepare every child academically and otherwise.... for success at the High School....and beyond."
Yes, did any one mention "college readiness"?
The subtitle!! 😂😂
Thank you, Tom, for putting this all together. I am super encouraged by the amount of great candidates running for the board. This is awesome
Wow. I guess humanity is real. Nice list of people.
Neither here nor there, but are the two Opdyckes related?
What an impressive group! Thank you to all of the candidates for offering your time and talents, and thanks to Tom for providing this platform.
I am so grateful to these candidates that are stepping up for Evanston! Glad to see their introductions.

I will absolutely ask her if I can get an interview with her before the election!
